Framing The Project
Problem — Design a series of two posters that will be used for a US refugee conference on healthcare and language disparity. Each poster should utilize typography differently and contain different content, but convey the same or similar messaging.
How Might We Address the mistreatment of asylum seekers from Mexico in detention centers that leads to, and worsens, mental health issues?
Project Summary
Design a series of posters focussing on Mexican asylum seekers, and the mental health issues they face when being detained by the United States border control. The posters I created have the goal of raising awareness of the improper treatment of asylum seekers, and how difficult the process of seeking asylum can be.
Process
For this project, I conducted research into the issues surrounding asylum seeker's treatment in detention centers as well as the design trend within Mexico. I found among other concerns, that abuse is often underreported in prison systems due to language barriers. This became the focus of my poster series.
